Bus Accidents

Due to the ever-increasing popularity of bus commuting as a main source of transportation, it’s no surprise that the number of bus-related injuries and deaths also have risen dramatically.

Bus accidents can be caused by numerous contributing factors including driver negligence, dangerous roadways, bad weather conditions, inadequate security, defective products and improper maintenance just to name a few.

Commercial Bus Accidents
The Federal government defines a bus as a passenger-carrying vehicle designed to seat at least 16 including the driver. The Federal Department of Transportation’s Motor Carrier Safety Administration develops and polices rules and regulations to ensure safety of bus passengers. Some of the rules include the hours a bus driver must log before carrying passengers (including acquiring a special license), bus safety features and preventive maintenance of the bus.

School Bus Accidents
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, school buses are the safest motor vehicles on our highways. This fact is hard to swallow when more than 10,000 children are injured in school bus accidents each year. Even more alarming is the fact that today’s school buses have not been redesigned since the mid-70’s.
